myON and Engage NY

We had quite the turnout for yesterday's webinar - it seems everyone wants to know more about how to align myON to the Engage NY curriculum, content, and Common Core Standards. If you missed the webinar, want to share it with your team, or just want to review some of the aspects we discussed, you can check out the recording.

January was another record month for reading, with students across the pilot reading a record 23,538 books in a single month! Some schools/districts that have taken a little longer to get rolling with myON really showed us how great they are doing, so good job everyone.

This month's webinar looked very closely at how to align myON to specific curriculum and standards. We began by looking at the Engage NY curriculum, but the focus was on process over product: The steps we took to find myON texts to support the Engage NY curriculum can be used to support any curriculum or content objectives. You can download the sample alignments (for grades 3-8) at the end of this post to see how this works.

In addition, we looked at sample strategies from the Engage NY site and how they can be used to address key aspects of the Common Core Standards:
  • Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction.
  • Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from texts, both literary and informational.
  • Regular practice with complex texts and their academic language.
